- Grades
1-6
- Bedford Christian
School uses the School
of Tomorrow curriculum, which is published by Accelerated Christian
Education, Inc. S.O.T.'s international headquarters are located just
north of us in Lewisville, Texas. Following are some of the unique features
of the School of Tomorrow curriculum.
-
- Diagnostic
Testing
- Each student
in grades 2-6 who enters BCS from a school which used
a different curriculum will be given diagnostic tests in five academic
areas: math, English, social studies, science, and word building.
These tests determine skill, weaknesses, and the level of concept
mastery. As well, the social studies and science diagnostic ascertains
the student's performance level based on his reading comprehension
skills. If diagnostic testing reveals weak areas, appropriate "gap"
PACEs will be prescribed to strengthen those weaknesses. A "gap"
PACE is material from a grade level that is below the student's chronological
grade level. Once "gap" PACEs are completed, the student
will begin progress at his individual achievement level.
-
- Individualization
- This facet of
the curriculum for grades 1-6 allows each student to
proceed at the precise level determined by the student's ability.
A high-achiever may quickly advance through his studies, while a moderate-paced
learner can move at a slower rate. In addition to this benefit, mastery
of the subject matter before progressing to future learning also becomes
possible with individualization.
-
- PACEs
- Each bite-sized
booklet of School of Tomorrow curriculum is known as a PACE.
PACE stands for "Packet of Accelerated Christian Education."
While the traditional classroom often issues a textbook for the entire
year's course, we prescribe one PACE (equivalent to one chapter in
a standard textbook) at a time in each subject area. Typically, a
student should have at least 5 PACEs at any given time, plus PACEs
for any elective courses he is taking. Twelve PACEs in one academic
subject constitute one year of subject matter.
